Treatment for improvement of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used for patients that require simultaneous administration of two ingredients, Telmisartan and Lovastatin. Telmisartan is effective in treating hypertension, particularly in patients over 55 years of age who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease, lowering the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death. Lovastatin regulates cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. These two medications are used when control through diet or exercise is inadequate. Therefore, this medication helps manage both hypertension and hyperlipidemia concurrently and reduces cardiovascular disease-related risks.
Telmisartan: For essential hypertension, the recommended dosage is 40 mg orally once daily, which may be effective at 20 mg once daily for some patients. If necessary, the dosage may be increased and taken at 80 mg once daily. For reduction of cardiovascular disease risk, the recommended dosage is 80 mg orally once daily. Patients with liver impairment should not exceed 40 mg once daily. Lovastatin Calcium: For primary hypercholesterolemia.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborns if taken during pregnancy, and use should be immediately discontinued upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergy to this medication or its components, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and women of childbearing age not using adequate contraception should not take this medication. The use of this medication in patients with severe liver dysfunction, bile duct obstruction or cholestasis, unexplained significantly elevated liver enzymes, muscular disorders, hereditary angioedema, severe renal impairment, patients on certain immunosuppressants, and patients with diabetes or moderate to severe renal impairment is contraindicated or requires caution. Elderly individuals, patients with hyperkalemia, mild to moderate liver impairment, valvular heart disease or ischemic heart disease, gastrointestinal disease, renal vascular hypertension, and severe myasthenia gravis require careful use of this medication. This medication may cause musculature-related side effects such as myalgia, myopathy, and rhabdomyolysis, so if symptoms of muscle pain or weakness occur, it is essential to consult a physician immediately. This medication can cause liver function abnormalities, so regular liver function tests are necessary before and during use, and the medication should be stopped if liver enzyme levels rise significantly. If symptoms of low blood pressure occur, they should be reported immediately, as this medication may cause blood pressure to drop too low, particularly in patients with low blood volume or those taking diuretics. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, potassium supplements, certain antibiotics, and antifungals, so if patients are taking other medications, they should inform their doctor or pharmacist. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery, as drowsiness or dizziness may occur. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, and thus it is not recommended for use in this population. In cases of overdose, hypotension, dizziness, acute renal failure, etc., immediate contact with a medical facility is essential, and appropriate treatment should be sought. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance should not take it. While taking this medication, symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, dizziness, dyspepsia, and liver dysfunction may occur, so it is important to consult a physician immediately if these symptoms appear.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
