This medication is used primarily to lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, and to increase levels of good cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol. It is particularly administered as an adjunct to diet in patients with familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia, and can be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is helpful for patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases due to hypercholesterolemia. It is important to combine diet and other non-drug measures during treatment and to consider causes of secondary dyslipidemia due to other diseases or drugs. An appropriate treatment plan should be made based on blood lipid test results, and it can also be used for initial treatment in patients with acute cardiovascular events. By improving blood lipid status, this medication contributes to cardiovascular health management.
