This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in heterozygous familial and non-familial cases, and to increase HDL-cholesterol levels. Additionally, in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it is administered as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering therapies or when other treatments are not effective. This medication is recommended for patients with dyslipidemia that cannot be managed by diet alone and should be used in conjunction with an appropriate diet. Before treatment, it is essential to identify other secondary causes and provide treatment as needed, and to regularly assess treatment efficacy through lipid testing. This medication is used to contribute to the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk associated with hypercholesterolemia.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

This medication is taken once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/80mg per day, with an initial recommended dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg per day. Precautions

This medication has been reported to cause a rare side effect called rhabdomyolysis that can lead to severe muscle damage. Therefore, patients at risk of decreased renal function due to acute infections, severe trauma, or surgery should temporarily discontinue or discontinue the use of this medication. This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active substance or ingredients, severely impaired liver function, muscle diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients on specific antiviral medications, and those with lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of alcoholism or liver disease, poor renal function, hypothyroidism or a family history of muscle diseases, elderly patients, etc., who are at higher risk of muscle damage should use this medication with caution. In particular, when taken in conjunction with other lipid-lowering agents or certain medications, the risk of muscle damage may increase, necessitating caution. If symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, or fever occur while taking this medication, inform a doctor immediately, as blood tests can check for muscle damage. In severe cases, the medication should be discontinued, and re-initiation should occur at a lower dose and under close observation once symptoms have improved. Liver function abnormalities may also occur with the use of this medication, so liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment, and if symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, or jaundice occur, medical personnel should be notified. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as it may be harmful to the fetus or infant, and women of childbearing age must ensure appropriate contraception during treatment. Neurological side effects such as dizziness or headaches may occur, requiring caution when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, this medication can interact with multiple drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform medical personnel, as dosage adjustments or discontinuation may be necessary when combined with certain antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, immunosuppressants, etc. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be based on symptoms, and monitoring of liver function and muscle damage should be performed. Lastly, safety and efficacy have not been established in children, and caution should be exercised in elderly patients due to the increased risk of muscle damage.
