Improvement of lipid levels by reducing cholesterol and LDL in hypercholesterolemia (primary, familial) and dyslipidemia and increasing HDL.
This drug is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-C, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, and to increase HDL-C levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It may also be administered as an adjunctive treatment for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, in combination with existing therapies or when other treatments are ineffective. This drug is used alongside an appropriate diet and non-drug measures, and secondary causes of dyslipidemia must be confirmed and treated for it to be effective. It is safe to use as a lipid-lowering agent in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease, and blood lipid levels should be monitored before and after therapy. This drug helps improve cardiovascular health by regulating lipid levels.
This drug is administered once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/80mg daily, with an initial recommended dosage of 10/10mg or 10/20mg daily. If a greater reduction in LDL-C is required, an initial dose of 10/40mg daily is recommended. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended dosage is 10/40mg daily.
This drug can pose a risk of muscle-related adverse effects, so patients must inform their doctor immediately if they experience severe muscle pain or weakness symptoms. Additionally, patients with renal function issues due to severe infections, surgeries, trauma, etc., may need to temporarily interrupt or adjust the dosage of this drug. This drug should not be administered to patients allergic to any of its components, those with severe liver impairment, muscle diseases, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with a history of alcohol dependence or liver disease, those with impaired renal function, hypothyroidism, the elderly, and others at high risk of muscle abnormalities should use this medication with caution. Combining this drug with certain other medications may increase the risk of muscle damage, so patients must consult with their doctor or pharmacist regarding any co-administered medications. Periodic liver function tests are necessary if liver function abnormalities are present, and if symptoms of liver damage (e.g., nausea, vomiting, fatigue) occur, patients should immediately discontinue use and consult medical personnel. Blood sugar levels may fluctuate during treatment, so diabetic patients must carefully manage their blood sugar levels, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraception. Caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery due to the potential for dizziness. This drug is not recommended for children as its safety and efficacy in this population have not been established, and it should be used cautiously in the elderly due to the risk of muscle abnormalities. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic along with supportive therapy, and monitoring of liver function and muscle enzyme levels is required.
