This medication is an adjunct to diet for lowering total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol, and for raising HDL-cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (familial and non-familial) or mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia in conjunction with or as an alternative to other lipid-lowering therapies. This medication is administered alongside a diet and is given when response to other non-drug measures is insufficient. This medication can effectively manage dyslipidemia considering risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Prior to administration, secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated if necessary. Overall, this medication improves blood lipid levels associated with hypercholesterolemia and aids in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Precautions

This medication can rarely lead to a serious side effect known as rhabdomyolysis, which may cause damage to muscle tissue and result in acute kidney dysfunction. Therefore, if severe muscle pain or symptoms of myopathy occur, the doctor should be notified immediately, and treatment should be discontinued if necessary. This medication should not be taken by individuals with allergies to the active substance or any ingredients, those with severe liver dysfunction, individuals with muscle disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those taking certain antiviral medications. Individuals with a history of alcohol abuse or liver disease, impaired kidney function, hypothyroidism, and the elderly, who have risk factors for myopathy, should use this medication with caution. Additionally, using this medication in combination with certain other drugs may increase the risk of muscle damage, so anyone taking other medications should consult with a doctor or pharmacist. Since this medication can affect liver function, regular liver function tests should be performed before and during use, and if symptoms of liver dysfunction (fatigue, jaundice, nausea) occur, medical personnel should be notified immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and appropriate contraception should be practiced during treatment. Breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid this medication. Its safety and efficacy have not been established in children, so it is recommended not to use it in this population. The elderly are at higher risk for myopathy and should be careful during use, but separate dosage adjustments are generally not necessary. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment and supportive therapy should be based on symptoms, while monitoring liver function and muscle-related tests. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
