View approved original text

This medication is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with metformin if the patient has no previous experience with diabetes medication and is having difficulty controlling blood sugar alone. Additionally, it can be used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin when blood sugar control is insufficient with those agents alone. In combination therapy, if blood sugar control is still inadequate despite using metformin or other agents together, this medication can be added. This medication is effective in improving blood sugar control.
