Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It plays a supportive role in dietary and exercise therapy and can be administered alone or in combination with other medications. It helps effectively improve blood sugar levels.
The recommended dose of this medication is 20 mg once daily for monotherapy or combination therapy. It can be taken regardless of meals.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, it is not suitable for patients with allergies to any components of this medication, patients with type 1 diabetes, or patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or coma. Additionally, it is preferable not to use this medication for patients who require insulin therapy, especially those with severe infections, before and after surgery, or those with severe trauma. This medication should be used carefully in patients with severe liver dysfunction or heart failure. It is especially not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. Patients receiving sulfonylureas or insulin, and those at high risk of hypoglycemia should also be cautious. Conditions that increase the risk of hypoglycemia include pituitary or adrenal insufficiency, malnutrition, irregular meals, vigorous exercise, and excessive alcohol consumption. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction, abnormal heart rhythms, or those at risk of QT interval prolongation should also be cautious when using this medication. Acute pancreatitis symptoms may appear, so if there are persistent severe abdominal pain or vomiting, immediate consultation with a specialist is required. While taking this medication, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so it is essential to be well-informed about hypoglycemic symptoms and how to manage them, especially since the risk of hypoglycemia can increase when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications. There is a risk due to hypoglycemia when driving or working at heights, so caution is necessary. Also, if joint pain or blistering of the skin occurs while taking this medication, the doctor should be notified immediately. Use of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended, and if breastfeeding, a thorough consultation with a physician is necessary. Safety in children has not been established, and for older adults, it should be administered while monitoring their condition due to possible decline in physical function. In cases of overdose, general treatment should be administered, and if necessary, conditions should be monitored via electrocardiogram, etc. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. Lastly, this medication may interact with various drugs, so it is crucial to inform medical personnel if taking other medications, especially when used with heart-related drugs or medications affecting blood sugar.
Hypoglycemia, bowel obstruction, liver dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, similar pemphigus, acute pancreatitis, cerebral infarction, hepatic coma, heart failure, severe edema, severe allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness), severe skin adverse reactions (severe rash with fever, blistering, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes), respiratory issues (shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, cough with phlegm)
