Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and to raise levels of good HDL-cholesterol. Such pharmaceutical treatment is implemented when other non-pharmaceutical therapies are insufficient, and secondary causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, should also be identified and treated. It is important to regularly monitor lipid levels before and during treatment for appropriate management. It helps reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease caused by hypercholesterolemia.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. The dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/40mg per day. An initial dose of either 10/10mg or 10/20mg daily is recommended. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL-cholesterol, the dose may be adjusted. After starting treatment or once the dosage is adjusted, lipid levels should be monitored at intervals of more than 2 weeks and the dose adjusted accordingly.
This medication may rarely cause rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to severe muscle damage, so administration should be temporarily suspended or discontinued, especially in patients with acute muscle symptoms or renal problems. This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active ingredient or other components, those with severely impaired liver function, patients with muscle diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients taking certain antiviral medications, and those with lactose intolerance. Caution should be exercised for alcoholics, patients with liver dysfunction, decreased kidney function, hypothyroidism, and the elderly, as they are at increased risk of muscle damage. Caution is also necessary when taking with certain medications that may increase muscle damage risk. During the course of this medication, various side effects such as liver dysfunction, muscle pain, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, and dizziness may occur, and any severe or persistent symptoms should be discussed with a doctor immediately. To reduce the risk of muscular symptoms, blood tests should be performed to check muscle enzyme levels before and during treatment, and any muscle pain or weakness should be reported immediately. Regular liver function tests should be conducted, and if there are signs of liver damage, dosing may need to be stopped or adjusted. This medication may interact with several drugs, so patients must inform healthcare providers if they are taking other medications, especially when combined with certain antibiotics, antivirals, or immunosuppressants. Women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception during treatment, and the medication should not be administered if pregnant or potentially pregnant. Dizziness and other symptoms may occur, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. The safety of this medication in children has not been established and is therefore not recommended, while care should be taken in the elderly considering the risk of myopathy. In the event of overdose, there is no specific antidote; thus, treatment should be based on symptoms and appropriate measures taken through liver function and muscle enzyme testing. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container is not advised as it may compromise its quality.
