Surface anesthesia effect for injection and surgical procedures, genital mucosa, and leg ulcer.
This medication is used for surface anesthesia of the skin during the insertion of injection needles or superficial surgical procedures. It is also effective for surface anesthesia of the genital mucosa, for example, prior to the removal of condylomas. It can be utilized as surface anesthesia for the removal of fibrin, pus, and necrotic tissue in the washing or superficial surgery of leg ulcer areas. It helps reduce pain in the skin or mucosa, allowing the patient to receive treatment more comfortably. Therefore, this medication is used for various surface anesthesia purposes.
1. Skin: Cover with a sealant tape after application of this medication. The sealing of the application area should be maintained for 1-3 hours, and the effect lasts for at least 1 hour after removal of the sealant tape. 1) During the insertion of injection needles (e.g., intravenous catheterization, blood sampling), apply approximately 2g of this medication for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 5 hours. 2) For superficial surgical minor procedures (e.g., excision of a sebaceous cyst), apply 1.5-2g/10㎠ for 1 hour.
Infants aged 3 months to 12 months: Total amount 2g, not exceeding application area of 16 ㎠.
This medication is used as a local anesthetic and may cause a rare blood disorder called methemoglobinemia. Methemoglobinemia is characterized by symptoms such as blue discoloration of the skin or abnormal coloring of the blood, and in severe cases, it can lead to seizures, coma, or heart problems. Particular caution should be taken with patients who have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung diseases, infants under 6 months old, and cases where it is used with oxidizing agents. These patients should be closely monitored for symptoms of methemoglobinemia after using this medication. This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the ingredients or those with open wounds, mucous membranes, allergic dermatitis, infants under 3 months old, infants under 12 months old who are currently taking specific medications, or premature infants. Caution should be exercised in patients with anemia or liver disease, frail or elderly patients, and those allergic to propylene glycol contained in this medication. Local reactions such as temporary pallor, redness, swelling, itching, and initial burning sensation might occur upon use, and serious allergic reactions like urticaria, angioedema, or bronchospasm may rarely occur. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes, as it may cause irritation. This medication generally presents low systemic toxicity within the recommended dosage; however, if toxic symptoms appear, central nervous system excitation or depression and reduced heart function may occur, so careful monitoring is required. Additionally, the risk of methemoglobinemia may increase when used with certain medications; therefore, it is mandatory to consult with a doctor or pharmacist when using it together with other local anesthetics or antiarrhythmics. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be cautious, as this medication can cross the placenta and be secreted in breast milk. In young children, particularly infants under 3 months old, it should be used only with limitations, and it is safer not to use it on the genital mucosa. It should not be applied around the eyes, in the middle ear area, or on open wounds, and in the event of an overdose, immediate medical assistance should be sought for appropriate treatment. Finally, long-term high-dose use of this medication should be avoided due to animal studies suggesting a potential for carcinogenicity.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture and should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. Proper storage will help preserve the medication's efficacy over time.
