This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in the elderly, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining bone health and aiding calcium absorption to prevent bone diseases. Therefore, this medicine effectively improves health issues caused by vitamin D deficiency.

How it is given

Adult administration

Adults are injected intramuscularly with 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol. Elderly patients are injected intramuscularly with 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol. The annual dose should not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.

Child administration

Adolescents are injected intramuscularly with 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol. Therapeutic effects and tolerance should be reviewed within 6 months.

Precautions

Since this medicine contains vitamin D, it is necessary to carefully consider the total vitamin D intake when taking it together with vitamin D fortified foods or other vitamin D preparations. Additionally, calcium levels in blood and urine should be regularly monitored; if calcium levels become too high, the use of this drug should be discontinued. Take care when opening the injection container to avoid contamination with glass particles, especially when used in children or the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with certain diseases or allergies, in patients with poor kidney function, or in pregnant or nursing women. Several side effects such as headaches, fatigue, indigestion, dehydration, and increased blood pressure may occur during treatment, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required if any unusual symptoms appear.
