Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency
This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in the elderly, adolescents, and adults who are deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining bone health and aiding calcium absorption to prevent bone diseases. Therefore, this medicine effectively improves health issues caused by vitamin D deficiency.
Adults are injected intramuscularly with 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol. Elderly patients are injected intramuscularly with 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol. The annual dose should not exceed 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol.
Adolescents are injected intramuscularly with 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol. Therapeutic effects and tolerance should be reviewed within 6 months.
Since this medicine contains vitamin D, it is necessary to carefully consider the total vitamin D intake when taking it together with vitamin D fortified foods or other vitamin D preparations. Additionally, calcium levels in blood and urine should be regularly monitored; if calcium levels become too high, the use of this drug should be discontinued. Take care when opening the injection container to avoid contamination with glass particles, especially when used in children or the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with certain diseases or allergies, in patients with poor kidney function, or in pregnant or nursing women. Several side effects such as headaches, fatigue, indigestion, dehydration, and increased blood pressure may occur during treatment, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required if any unusual symptoms appear. Vitamin D and parathyroid hormone levels should be periodically monitored through blood tests, and kidney function status should be regularly checked. When used in conjunction with other medications, the effects may change due to drug interactions, so be sure to inform healthcare professionals of any medications being taken. During pregnancy, excessive use of this drug can be harmful to the fetus, so it is safer not to use it. It is advisable not to use this medication in children under the age of 12, as safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, discontinue the use of this medication immediately, reduce calcium intake, ensure adequate hydration, and treatment to promote diuresis may be necessary. This medication should not be mixed with other drugs and should be used rapidly after opening; any remaining medication should be discarded. Store this medication in a place shielded from light at a temperature between 1 to 25 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy.
