Improvement of essential hypertension and dyslipidemia, reduction of risk for myocardial infarction and stroke
This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension who do not achieve sufficient blood pressure control with monotherapy of amlodipine/valsartan combination therapy. Atorvastatin also plays a role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly beneficial in reducing cardiovascular risks such as myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular interventions, and angina in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease or in patients with type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, it helps improve vascular health by managing cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with dyslipidemia. This combination therapy effectively controls blood pressure and lipid levels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Take this medication once daily, one tablet with water. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning). The dosage of the amlodipine/valsartan combination can be adjusted based on blood pressure control, at 5/80 mg, 5/160 mg, or 10/160 mg to suit individual patients. Atorvastatin is tailored within a range of 10-80 mg once daily based on treatment goals and patient response.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimester, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Discontinue use if there are symptoms related to muscles or if muscle enzyme levels increase significantly, and patients at risk of severe myopathy should be monitored more closely. Patients with allergic reactions to any of the components, certain liver or kidney diseases, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with low sodium or fluid levels in the body may experience hypotension, so it is important to assess their condition before taking the medication, and blood pressure should be closely monitored during use. Patients with high potassium levels or those taking potassium supplements may experience further increases in potassium levels and regular blood tests are necessary. Patients with renal artery stenosis or those who have recently undergone kidney transplantation should consult their healthcare provider before taking this medication, and should discontinue it immediately if symptoms of angioedema occur. For patients with heart failure or after myocardial infarction, kidney function and blood pressure should be carefully monitored when taking this medication. This medication is not recommended for patients with severely impaired liver function, and it is important to inform the healthcare provider immediately if symptoms of liver dysfunction occur. Caution is advised for patients experiencing dizziness or fatigue while driving or operating machinery. This medication can interact with various drugs, so patients taking other medications should inform their healthcare provider, especially with certain antibiotics, antifungals, and immunosuppressants. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception. Breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this medication, and if atorvastatin is included, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
