Improvement of blood sugar control in adult Type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone in conjunction with diet and exercise therapy or combined with other antidiabetic agents such as Metformin or Sulfonylurea in cases where blood sugar control is difficult. This helps to effectively manage blood sugar and reduce the risk of complications.
The recommended dose of this medication for monotherapy or combination therapy is 20 mg once daily. It can be taken regardless of meals. When administered in combination with Sulfonylureas, a reduction in the dose of Sulfonylureas may be considered to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia. No adjustment of dosage is necessary for patients with renal impairment. No dosage adjustment is required for patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or other components. It is not appropriate for patients with Type 1 diabetes or those who urgently need blood sugar control due to diabetic ketoacidosis or coma. Patients with severe infections or those undergoing pre- and post-surgery or with severe trauma require insulin treatment and should avoid this medication. Caution is needed for patients with severely impaired liver function as safety is not established. For patients with heart failure, it should be used cautiously in mild to moderate cases and is not recommended for severe heart failure. Patients taking Sulfonylureas or insulin should take care due to the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients who are malnourished, have irregular meals, have engaged in vigorous exercise, or consume excessive alcohol may experience hypoglycemic symptoms. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction should also be cautious. Patients with cardiac rhythm abnormalities or risk of QT interval prolongation should avoid administration due to the risk of side effects. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis appear, consult a doctor immediately and discontinue use. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, constipation, hepatic dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, skin rash, and acute pancreatitis; therefore, medical attention is required if any unusual symptoms occur. Particularly, when used with other diabetic medications, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, and careful monitoring of blood sugar changes is essential. It is advisable for pregnant or nursing women to avoid use, and safety in pediatric patients has not been confirmed. Elderly patients should be monitored closely as physiological function may decline during use. In case of overdose, general treatment may be required along with additional treatment depending on the patient's condition. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers. During the use of this medication, patients should fully understand the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to respond, and be cautious when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, if symptoms such as joint pain or skin blisters occur, consult medical personnel immediately.
