Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as an adjunct when patients find it difficult to manage blood sugar with diet and exercise and can also be used alone. If blood sugar is not adequately controlled, it can be used in combination with other medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, and sitagliptin for more effective blood sugar management. It helps improve blood sugar control in patients when used with various combination therapies. This medication is used to enhance blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and additional combination therapy with other blood-glucose lowering agents such as insulin. For initial combination therapy, in cases where there is no prior experience with diabetes medications, the initial dose when co-administered with metformin is 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. This medication can be taken orally once daily at any time during the day, regardless of meals. The tablet should be swallowed whole.
Efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in children under the age of 18 have not been established.
