Precautions

This drug should be avoided in patients under 18 years of age who are obese, have obstructive sleep apnea syndrome or severe lung disease due to a high risk of severe respiratory depression. Patients with allergies to this medication or a history of hypersensitivity reactions should not use it. Administration is prohibited in patients currently taking or who have stopped MAO inhibitors, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, or antiparkinsonian agents within the past 2 weeks. Patients under 12 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women, glaucoma patients, patients with obstructive urinary tract diseases such as prostatic hypertrophy, patients with bleeding tendencies or who are on anticoagulants, and patients with severe liver or kidney diseases should not use this medication. Individuals with allergic tendencies or those who have previously experienced allergic symptoms from medications should use it cautiously, as well as those with liver dysfunction, kidney dysfunction, thyroid disease, diabetes, the frail, or those with high fevers. Patients with cardiovascular disease or hypertension, elderly patients, women of childbearing potential, and those with increased intraocular pressure or urination disorders should also be cautious when administering. Caution is needed if there is smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchiectasis, excessive phlegm accompanied or lasting more than one week, or cough accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache. Patients with stenosing peptic ulcers or pyloric duodenal obstruction should be careful, as the anticholinergic effects of this medication may worsen their symptoms. Patients with epilepsy or those with hypersensitivity or allergy history to the caramel ingredient in this medication should be cautious when taking it. Drowsiness may occur while taking this medication; therefore, one should avoid driving or operating machinery, and excessive or long-term use should be avoided. If signs of liver damage occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. If fever persists for several days or symptoms such as respiratory distress or hemoptysis do not improve, consulting a specialist is mandatory. It is advisable not to combine this drug with other cough suppressants, cold medicines, antihistamines, or sedatives, as co-administration with alcohol or CNS depressants may intensify drowsiness. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and it is preferable not to administer it to children and adolescents under the age of 19, as safety and efficacy have not been established. In particular, children under 12 years of age should never be administered this medication due to the high risk of respiratory depression. Elderly individuals should be monitored closely due to functional decline and use it cautiously. In cases of overdose, severe symptoms such as vomiting, convulsions, apnea, mental confusion, and cardiovascular abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.
