Improvement of lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and prevention of atherosclerotic vascular disease risk
This medication helps lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing good cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol. It is particularly used in patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, and it is important to administer it alongside dietary treatment. Prior to medication administration, secondary causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be identified and treated if necessary. During treatment, levels of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides should be monitored consistently. This medication is used in cases where dietary and non-pharmacological measures are insufficient, and it is effective in improving the patient's blood lipid status.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. A starting dose of 10/5 mg is recommended. For patients requiring greater reductions in LDL-cholesterol, dosage can be adjusted. After initiating treatment or after adjusting the dosage, blood lipid levels should be verified at intervals of at least 4 weeks to adjust the dosage, with a maximum increase of up to 10/20 mg daily.
This medication may cause serious muscle problems, so if symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness occur, patients should promptly inform their physician. Patients with impaired liver function or liver disease should undergo liver tests before using this medication and should continue to monitor liver function periodically during treatment. Patients who consume large amounts of alcohol or have a history of liver disease should be particularly cautious when using this medication, and elderly patients may also be at risk of muscle problems. There may be interactions when taken with other medications, so patients should inform their physician or pharmacist of any current medications they are taking. During the course of this medication, symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle cramps, fatigue, fever, etc., may occur, so patients should immediately inform healthcare providers and undergo necessary tests.
