Lipid control in hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and control of risk of atherosclerotic vascular diseases
This drug helps lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing levels of HDL cholesterol, the good cholesterol. It is particularly used in conjunction with an appropriate diet when there is a risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. Before administration, it is important to identify and treat other causes of dyslipidemia, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, if necessary. It is also necessary to accurately measure lipid levels to determine the treatment direction, and lipid tests are recommended to be conducted early in hospitalization during acute coronary events. This drug is an effective treatment method to maintain healthy lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
This drug is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, an initial dose of 10/5 mg once daily is recommended. For patients requiring greater reduction of LDL cholesterol, the dosage may be adjusted. After starting administration or adjusting the dosage, lipid levels should be checked at intervals of at least 4 weeks and adjusted accordingly, with a maximum daily dose of 10/20 mg.
This drug can rarely cause a serious side effect called rhabdomyolysis, which could lead to acute renal failure. If serious muscle symptoms occur or if there are risk factors, administration should be discontinued or temporarily halted. Additionally, this drug can affect liver function and should not be used if there is liver disease or elevated liver enzyme levels. Patients at high risk for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis should have blood tests to check muscle enzyme levels before administration, and continuous monitoring is required during treatment. This drug should not be administered to pregnant women or nursing mothers, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception during treatment. It is safe not to use this drug in certain patient populations such as alcoholics, patients with severe renal failure, and those with muscle diseases. Interactions may occur when combined with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals of any medications being taken. During treatment with this drug, immediately inform a doctor if symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, fatigue, fever, etc. occur. If symptoms of liver dysfunction or severe skin reactions such as severe rashes or urticaria occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult with healthcare professionals. Caution is advised when administering to children or the elderly, especially since the elderly have a higher risk of myopathy. In case of overdose, no specific antidote exists, so treatment should be symptomatic, and liver and muscle function tests should be performed. This drug contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. Finally, this drug should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
