This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as well as to raise levels of HDL-cholesterol. It is especially indicated for those at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, and it is important to take it in conjunction with a proper dietary regimen. Prior to the administration of this medication, secondary causes such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be investigated and treated if necessary. During treatment, cholesterol levels should be monitored regularly, and lipid tests should be performed early in cases of acute coronary events. This medication is used effectively to improve blood lipid levels when dietary and non-pharmacological measures are inadequate.
