View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used as monotherapy, but if blood sugar control is challenging in patients who have not taken diabetes medications before, it may be combined with metformin. Additionally, it is added to therapy for patients whose blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin. It is also used when blood sugar control is difficult in more complex combinations, thereby enhancing the therapeutic effect. Thus, this medication is used in various treatment situations to improve blood sugar control.
