View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. It can be administered alone when first used, and for those who find it difficult to control their blood sugar with monotherapy, it may be combined with other diabetes medications such as metformin. It is additionally consumed when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy or combination therapy with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin. In other words, this medication helps to improve blood sugar levels in conjunction with various treatment methods. This medication is used by adjusting it to each patient's individual condition, effectively improving blood sugar control.

Precautions

This medication may cause rare but serious allergic reactions; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur after taking the medication, you should immediately stop taking it and consult a doctor. This medication may lead to serious pancreatitis; therefore, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occur during use, you should inform a healthcare professional immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, nor in those allergic to this medication or any of its components. Patients with decreased kidney function may experience delayed excretion of this medication, so dosage adjustment is necessary, and regular kidney function tests should be conducted. This medication may cause side effects such as cold symptoms, headaches, and upper respiratory infections in some patients when used alone, and there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia when used in combination with other diabetes medications. Particularly, when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur more frequently, so blood sugar should be checked regularly, and dosages adjusted if necessary. This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy, and nursing mothers should avoid taking it. It is advisable not to use this medication in children or adolescents under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may have a higher likelihood of reduced kidney function, so careful dose adjustments and regular kidney function tests are necessary. In case of overdose, general emergency measures should be taken, and if necessary, some of the medication may be removed by hemodialysis. If symptoms such as joint pain or blistering on the skin occur during the course of taking this medication, you should immediately notify a doctor and consider discontinuing the medication. Additionally, this medication has relatively few interactions with other drugs, but blood concentration changes may occur with certain medications, so it is important to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken.
