Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes

  • Difficulty in blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. Initially, it is administered as monotherapy, and if there is no prior experience with diabetes medication and sufficient blood sugar control cannot be achieved with monotherapy, it may be combined with metformin. Additionally, if blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this medication is also prescribed in combination. In cases where blood sugar control is difficult with multiple medication combinations, this medication is added for more effective blood sugar management. It is utilized to improve blood sugar control in various treatment situations.

Do not use this medication in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients allergic to this medication or its components should avoid taking it. Patients with impaired kidney function may accumulate the medication in the body, so dose adjustment is necessary and should be taken under a physician's guidance. Hypoglycemia symptoms may occur during the use of this medication, so especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood sugar levels should be monitored closely. If severe joint pain or blisters on the skin develop, inform a physician immediately and stop taking the medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication, and its safety in children and adolescents has not been established. The elderly may have reduced kidney function, so kidney function should be assessed before taking the medication, and dose adjustment may be necessary.
