View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It may be administered as monotherapy, and if blood sugar control is difficult as monotherapy in those who have never used diabetes medications before, it may be used in combination with metformin. It can also be used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin when adequate blood sugar control is not achieved with these therapies. Additionally, if blood sugar control is insufficient with various combination therapies, this medication can be added to improve treatment effectiveness. This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients.

The recommended dose of this medication is 100 mg once daily, either as monotherapy or in combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken irrespective of meals. In patients with renal impairment, for those with moderate renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] 30-45 mL/min/1.73 m2), the dose is 50 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication may cause serious allergic reactions in some patients, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur after taking the medication, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Rarely, this medication may cause a severe pancreatic condition known as acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea arise during treatment, seek medical attention immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and patients who are allergic to this medication or its components should avoid it. Patients with renal impairment may need dose adjustments for this medication, so if renal disease is present, it is essential to inform the doctor. During treatment with this medication, side effects such as upper respiratory infections, headaches, nasopharyngitis, and gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea or nausea may occur. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, so if these medications are used concurrently, blood sugar changes should be monitored closely. If severe joint pain or blistering of the skin occurs during treatment, it is essential to inform a doctor immediately, and it may be necessary to discontinue the medication. This medication is not recommended for pregnant women, and nursing mothers should also avoid taking it. Elderly individuals may have decreased renal function, so it is recommended to undergo renal function tests before taking this medication and adjust the dosage as needed. In case of overdose, general emergency treatment should be administered, and if necessary, blood dialysis may be used to remove some of the medication. This medication has minimal drug interactions when taken with other antidiabetic or cardiovascular medications, but certain drugs such as digoxin may require monitoring of blood levels. Regular visits to the doctor during treatment are important to carefully observe for any adverse reactions or changes in symptoms.
