Precautions

This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener that breaks down in the body into phenylalanine. Therefore, patients with the genetic condition phenylketonuria should not take this medication. Care must be taken not to exceed the daily maximum allowable amount of aspartame, which should be kept under 2.4g for adults. Patients who have previously experienced shock reactions to this medication should not take it. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity or allergies to penicillin antibiotics should be cautious when taking this medication. Additionally, caution is required for individuals who frequently exhibit allergic symptoms such as asthma, skin rash, or hives. Patients with severely impaired kidney function may have increased risk of side effects due to poor excretion of this medication, thus requiring careful monitoring and dosage adjustment. Serious allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis may occur during treatment; symptoms must be closely monitored, and if there are signs of oral discomfort, wheezing, dizziness, or sweating, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Hypersensitivity reactions like skin rash, itching, fever, and arthralgia may also occur; if these symptoms appear, medication should be stopped and medical treatment should be sought. Gastrointestinal effects may manifest as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, and in severe cases, serious colitis may occur, requiring caution. Rarely, respiratory conditions such as shortness of breath or pneumonia may develop, so immediate consultation with a physician is necessary if respiratory symptoms appear. Blood tests may show abnormalities such as thrombocytopenia or leukopenia, necessitating regular examinations during long-term use. Central nervous system effects may lead to disturbances in cognition, behavioral changes, or seizures; thus, careful dosage adjustment is important for patients with reduced kidney function. Severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, may occur very rarely, warranting close monitoring of skin condition. Liver and kidney function abnormalities may also arise, hence regular check-ups and monitoring are essential. During the administration of this medication, symptoms of oral candidiasis or infections such as stomatitis may appear, and symptoms of vitamin K and B deficiency have also been reported rarely. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur, thus caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. If taken for more than 10 days, blood tests to check white blood cell counts should be performed. In patients with reduced kidney function, careful dosage adjustment is necessary to avoid seizure risks. Care must be taken when co-administering this medication with diuretics or aminoglycoside antibiotics, as it may elevate the risk of kidney impairment, necessitating careful management. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not established, so it should be used cautiously only when necessary, and breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding as the drug may be transmitted through breast milk. Its safety has not been established for infants under 2 months, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. Elderly patients may exhibit adverse reactions more easily due to diminished bodily functions, thus careful adjustment of dosage and intervals is appropriate.
