This drug is used to prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is a helpful medication for those experiencing discomfort due to asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents 15 years and older take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis are instructed to take 1 tablet, 1 packet, or 1 film daily in the evening.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years take 5 mg of montelukast once daily, chewing or allowing it to dissolve on their tongue without water. This medication should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Children aged 2 to 5 years...

Precautions

This medication is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. During treatment with this medication, there may be adverse effects on the neuropsychiatric system; if symptoms such as anxiety, aggressive behavior, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur, consult a doctor immediately. Do not take this medication if there is an allergy to this drug or any of its components. Common side effects may include fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, nasal congestion, and rash; consult a doctor if adverse reactions occur. This medication can be safely taken by children and the elderly, but is not recommended for infants under 6 months of age. This medication is not intended to treat acute asthma attacks, so an emergency inhaler should be used when acute symptoms occur. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid those medications while taking this drug. Do not abruptly discontinue or change the dosage of other asthma treatments without a doctor's guidance during treatment with this medication. If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before taking this medication unless it is absolutely necessary. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and symptoms should be treated by visiting a healthcare institution immediately. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should not be opened until use and should be kept out of reach of children. If neuropsychiatric symptoms appear while taking this medication, inform a doctor immediately; seek medical attention if asthma symptoms worsen or the use of rescue inhalers increases.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, anaphylaxis, severe allergic reactions, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, severe skin adverse reactions, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, pulmonary eosinophilia, skin or eye changes

Mild side effects

Weakness/fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, trauma, dyspepsia, infectious gastroenteritis, dental pain, dizziness, headache, nasal congestion, cough, influenza, rash, pyuria, drowsiness, sensory abnormalities/diminished sensitivity, palpitations, nosebleed, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, joint pain, muscle pain, nocturnal enuresis, edema, hair loss, itching, pharyngitis, sinusitis, anorexia, otitis, viral infection, laryngitis, chickenpox, gastroenteritis, eczema, pneumonia, dermatitis, conjunctivitis
