This medication is used for the treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding caused by gastric and duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and peptic ulcers as well as acute stress ulcers. It is also effective in hemorrhagic gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It helps improve erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling of the gastric mucosa during acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis. It is used to improve various ulcerative and inflammatory conditions related to the gastrointestinal tract.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 20 mg orally twice a day (after breakfast, after dinner, or at bedtime) or 40 mg orally once a day (at bedtime). In cases of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, treatment usually starts with an injection, and when oral administration becomes possible, it is switched to oral administration. For acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis: 10 mg orally.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its ingredients or similar medications. This medication contains lactose, so patients with a hereditary condition of lactose intolerance should not take it. Patients with a history of allergic reactions should use this medication with caution, and patients with impaired kidney function should reduce the dosage or increase the dosing interval. Patients with heart disease should exercise caution as it may affect the heart, and patients with impaired liver function should use it carefully as symptoms may worsen. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so they should adjust their drug dosage accordingly. While rare, serious allergic reactions, decreased blood cell counts, severe skin conditions, liver dysfunction, muscle damage, heart rhythm disturbances, altered consciousness, kidney inflammation, and lung inflammation may occur. If any abnormal symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice. Common side effects may include skin rash, dyspepsia, changes in blood pressure, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, muscle cramps, etc. If these symptoms occur, consult with a doctor. During treatment, carefully observe changes in symptoms and use the minimal effective dose. If there is no effect, consider alternative treatment options. This medication dissolves in the mouth but is not absorbed through the oral mucosa, so it must be swallowed with water or saliva. Patients undergoing dialysis should be careful as using this medication with certain phosphate binders may reduce its effectiveness. This medication may reduce the effectiveness when taken with certain antifungal agents or some chemotherapy medications, so inform healthcare providers if you are taking other medications. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only if the benefits outweigh the risks, as safety during pregnancy has not been well established. Breastfeeding women should discontinue breastfeeding as this medication may pass into breast milk. It is advisable to avoid use in children as safety has not been adequately verified. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer and should only be used once it is confirmed that gastric cancer is not present.
