Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
Directions for use: Take after meals for optimal absorption. Adults Most infections: 250mg per dose, 2 times daily. Severe lower respiratory tract infections, pneumonia, severe infections, or suspected infections caused by organisms with reduced susceptibility: 500mg per dose, 2 times daily. Urinary tract infections: 250mg per dose, 2 times daily. Uncomplicated gonorrhea: Administer 1g as a single dose. Lyme disease: 500mg per dose, 2 times daily for 14 days (10~21 days). For the treatment of infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A beta-hemolytic), this drug should be administered for 7~10 days. This drug should not be divided and is therefore not suitable for treating patients who cannot swallow tablets, such as young infants and children. Patients with renal impairment: Cefuroxime is excreted primarily by the kidneys. To compensate for delayed excretion in patients with markedly impaired renal function, dose reduction of cefuroxime is recommended as follows. Creatinine clearance ≥ 30 mL/min/1.73m2, T1/2 (hours) 1.4 - 2.4: No dose adjustment required (standard dose: 125mg-500mg per dose, 2 times daily) Creatinine clearance 10 - 29 mL/min/1.73m2, T1/2 (hours) 4.6: Administer a standard single dose every 24 hours Creatinine clearance < 10 mL/min/1.73m2, T1/2 (hours) 16.8: Administer a standard single dose every 48 hours Patients receiving hemodialysis, T1/2 (hours) 2 - 4: Administer an additional standard single dose at the end of each dialysis session
Child dose

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics. It should be used cautiously in patients with a history of allergies to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics, patients with bronchial asthma or predisposed to allergic reactions such as skin rashes, and in patients with severely impaired renal function. Additionally, patients who have difficulty swallowing orally, those receiving parenteral nutrition, the elderly, and patients with a poor general condition require caution, as symptoms of vitamin K deficiency may appear. Use of this medication may lead to various side effects including overgrowth of Candida, changes in blood cell counts, skin rashes, headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, among others, thus symptoms should be monitored closely. Although rare, serious skin conditions or allergic reactions, hepatitis, or deterioration of renal function may occur, and medical attention should be sought immediately if such symptoms manifest. Long-term use of this medication may lead to the development of resistant bacteria, hence it is important to use it for the minimum necessary duration only. Patients should be careful when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur during treatment. When taking with other medications, renal function may be affected, so it is important to consult with a physician or pharmacist. Additionally, taking with antacids may reduce the effectiveness of the medication, thus it is better taken with meals. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully consider the risks and benefits of taking this medication. Safety has not been established in infants under 3 months of age, and for children, it is recommended to administer it in dry syrup form due to the bitterness. Elderly patients may experience side effects more easily due to declining bodily functions, and dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted carefully. This medication may affect certain clinical test results, so informing healthcare professionals during examinations is necessary. In the case of overdose, serious side effects such as seizures may occur, and immediate emergency treatment is required. Finally, keep out of reach of children and store in the original container to maintain the quality and safety of the medication.
