Treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis and pneumonia (respiratory infections) and urinary tract infections
This medication is effective for treating various bacterial infections. It is used for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, and lung abscess, as well as for tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also suitable for treating urinary tract infections like cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, pelvic infections, and gonorrhea. It is effective against skin and soft tissue infections, boils, abscesses, and wound infections, and it is also used to treat osteomyelitis and dental infections. It has a broad antibacterial effect against various types of bacteria, helping to improve various infection symptoms.
As amoxicillin/potassium clavulanate, 250 mg/125 mg orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per dose. For those with renal impairment, the dosage is adjusted according to creatinine clearance. - Creatinine clearance above 30 mL/min: No adjustment needed. - 10–30 mL/min: 250 mg/125 mg every 12 hours.
For children aged 12 years or older or weighing 40 kg or more, the same dosage as adults is administered. In cases of renal impairment, the dosage is reduced similarly to adults.
This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins and cephalosporins. Especially in patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, the risk of rash is high, and it is advisable to avoid this drug. Patients with liver function issues may experience recurrence of liver function impairment upon using this drug and should take caution. Patients with liver impairment or moderate to severe renal impairment may have increased drug concentrations and should pay attention to dosage adjustment and administration intervals. People with allergic tendencies or those who easily develop symptoms such as bronchial asthma or skin rashes must take precautions when using this drug. Patients who have difficulty with oral intake, patients receiving non-oral nutrition, elderly individuals, and those in poor overall health are at risk for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency and should be monitored. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders may have insufficient drug absorption and must be administered carefully. This drug may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Gastrointestinal symptoms can be somewhat reduced if taken with meals. Liver function abnormalities, hepatitis, and jaundice may occur rarely; therefore, regular liver function tests are recommended. Rarely, skin rash, itching, and severe skin reactions may occur, and if such symptoms arise, the usage must be discontinued immediately and followed as per the physician's directions. Blood-related abnormalities such as leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and anemia have been reported rarely, which may require blood tests. Neurological symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, confusion, and seizures may occur; thus, any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. In cases of renal function abnormalities, acute renal failure or nephritis may occur, hence renal function should be monitored periodically. During antibiotic usage, an imbalance in intestinal flora can lead to symptoms such as candidiasis or stomatitis; caution is warranted. There may be a tendency for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of vitamin B deficiency, so supplementation may be required if necessary. Long-term use of this drug may lead to the development of resistant bacteria, so it should be used for the minimum period possible, especially if treatment exceeds 14 days. It is advisable not to use during the first three months of pregnancy, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should use it with caution after consulting a doctor. Breastfeeding mothers taking this drug may observe abnormal reactions such as diarrhea or skin rashes in infants and should be monitored. Not recommended for children under 12 years old or weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly individuals are at higher risk for side effects due to decreased physiological function, therefore dose adjustment and monitoring of their condition are important. This drug may interact with other medications, especially anticoagulants, probenecid, and allopurinol; hence, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist when taking these together. Overdose may cause gastrointestinal symptoms, renal failure, seizures, etc., and immediate cessation of use and appropriate treatment is necessary. Store in a tightly closed container in a dry place at or below 25 degrees Celsius. Do not arbitrarily discontinue or change usage.
