This medication helps in preventing and continuously treating asthma. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take sodium montelukast 10 mg orally once daily. This medication should be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. The 10 mg orodispersible film should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve without water. It should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years should take sodium montelukast 5 mg once daily, chewing the tablet or placing it on the tongue and allowing it to dissolve without water. Children aged 4 to 5 years should take sodium montelukast 4 mg once daily, chewing the tablet.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid use. Caution should be taken not to exceed the daily allowable dosage of aspartame, which can be taken up to a maximum of 2.4 grams for adults. Patients who are allergic to this medication or its components should not use it. Additionally, this drug contains lactose, thus patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic issues should avoid use.
