Precautions

This medication is used to alleviate overactive bladder reactions. However, it should not be administered to patients with symptoms of urinary retention, severe gastrointestinal disorders, myasthenia gravis, or narrow-angle glaucoma. Additionally, individuals allergic to this drug or those undergoing dialysis, and patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction should not use it. It is also contraindicated in patients with certain inherited metabolic disorders. Patients with moderate renal or hepatic impairment, those at risk of bladder outlet obstruction, and patients with slow gastrointestinal motility should use this medication with caution. Moreover, when used with specific drugs, dosage adjustment is necessary, so it should be taken as directed by a physician. Common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dry eyes, nausea, dyspepsia, upper abdominal pain, vomiting, flu-like symptoms, pharyngitis, dizziness, depression, peripheral edema, fatigue, cough, hypertension, urinary tract infections, cystitis, rhinitis, headache, hallucinations, drowsiness, delirium, renal impairment, itching, rash, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, atrial fibrillation, palpitations, tachycardia, QT prolongation on ECG, abnormal liver function tests, anorexia, and hyperkalemia. There is a risk of inducing cardiac arrhythmias, so patients with heart conditions should use it with caution, and there may be a risk of accidents due to drowsiness or blurred vision while driving or operating machinery. When used with other anticholinergic medications, effects may be enhanced or side effects may be intensified, so caution is required during concomitant use. Additionally, since this medication is metabolized in the liver, concomitant use with drugs that inhibit specific liver metabolic enzymes can increase drug concentration, necessitating dosage adjustment. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, thus it should be used with caution during pregnancy, and nursing mothers should avoid using this medication. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is not used in pediatric patients. Overdose may result in headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, and appropriate emergency measures should be taken if necessary. Particularly, patients with heart disease or a risk of QT prolongation should exercise utmost caution as serious side effects may occur in case of overdose.
