Treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis (age 5 years and older) and nocturia associated with nocturnal polyuria (adults)
This medication is used for the treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis in children over 5 years old and symptoms related to nocturia in adults. It helps alleviate the symptoms of frequent urination at night, promoting comfortable sleep.
Treatment of nocturia associated with nocturnal polyuria (adults only): Administer desmopressin acetate 0.1mg orally at bedtime. If the effect is insufficient after one week, increase the dose to 0.2mg; if the effect remains insufficient, increase the dose at weekly intervals up to 0.4mg. Discontinue treatment if there is no clinical effect within 4 weeks after dose determination. Starting treatment with this medicine is not recommended in patients aged 65 years and older. If treatment is necessary in elderly patients, monitor serum sodium levels and other relevant parameters closely. (See Precautions for Use, section 5. General Precautions.)
Primary nocturnal enuresis (5 years and older): Administer desmopressin acetate 0.2mg orally at bedtime. If the effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased to 0.4mg. Whether to continue treatment should be determined after 3 months of administration, following a treatment-free period of at least 1 week.
This medication plays a role in regulating the body's fluid balance, particularly in reducing urine output. It is very important to avoid excessive fluid intake while taking this medication. One should drink only enough to relieve thirst, as excessive fluid intake can lower sodium levels in the body, leading to coma or severe side effects. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain conditions or those taking certain medications, such as those with renal failure, heart failure, or hyponatremia, as well as patients allergic to any of the components of this medication. Use with caution in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney diseases, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and those who may experience fluid or electrolyte imbalances. During treatment with this medication, side effects such as headaches, nausea, weight gain, and cramps may occur. If any abnormal symptoms arise, one should consult healthcare providers immediately. Particularly in elderly patients, the risk of hyponatremia is higher, so blood sodium levels should be regularly monitored, and careful observation is necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform healthcare providers. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should be cautious when using this medication, and the decision to use it should be made after consulting healthcare providers if necessary. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headaches, nausea, cramps, and loss of consciousness may occur, and the dosage should be adjusted according to symptoms, with fluid intake limited. In severe cases, appropriate treatment in a hospital is required.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the drug's effectiveness and ensure its safe use.
