View approved original text

This medication is used to assist dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with insulin if adequate blood sugar control is difficult with oral hypoglycemic agents. Additionally, it can be used in combination with metformin if blood sugar control is not effective with sulfonylureas or metformin alone. This medication effectively improves blood sugar levels, aiding in diabetes management.

Patients with allergies to this medication or its ingredients, or to sulfonylureas or sulfonamides should not use it. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function should avoid this medication and consider switching to insulin therapy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, should not take this medication. Patients with severe infections, pre- and post-surgery, or with major trauma should also consider insulin therapy. In cases of gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea or vomiting, nutritional absorption may be impaired, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia. Particularly, patients with poor nutritional status, those who skip meals, irregular eating patterns, excessive exercise, unbalanced carbohydrate intake, alcohol consumers, patients with impaired kidney or liver function, and the elderly are at greater risk of hypoglycemia and should be administered this medication carefully. Overdosing may lead to hypoglycemia; therefore, dosage must be strictly followed, and if hypoglycemic symptoms appear, glucose should be consumed immediately. Hypoglycemia symptoms may include headache, severe hunger, nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, confusion, shaking, dizziness, etc., so caution is advised. This medication can cause various side effects such as liver dysfunction, blood disorders, allergic reactions, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor or pharmacist immediately. Moreover, interactions may occur when taken with other medications, so inform healthcare professionals about any concurrent medications. During the course of taking this medication, maintaining a regular diet, exercise, and weight management is essential, and continuous monitoring of blood sugar levels is necessary. There is a risk of accidents due to hypoglycemia when driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised if symptoms occur. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication and must consider switching to insulin therapy if needed, as safety has not been established for children under 18 years of age. Elderly patients often have decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustments should be considered, and in case of overdose, they should quickly seek appropriate medical treatment.
