Adults and children aged 12 years or older or weighing over 40 kg: Administer 250 mg/125 mg of amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium orally three times daily every 8 hours; may increase to 500 mg/125 mg per dose for severe or respiratory infections. In cases of renal impairment, adjust the dosage based on creatinine clearance. - For creatinine clearance over 30 mL/min: No dose adjustment needed.
For children aged 12 years or older or weighing over 40 kg, follow the same dosing regimen as adults. In children with renal impairment, dosage is reduced similarly to adults.
This medication contains a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporins. Patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia are at a higher risk of side effects such as rashes. Additionally, patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this medication or penicillin should avoid use due to the possibility of relapse. Patients with impaired liver function may have worsening liver function when using this medication, so it should be administered with caution. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment need to adjust the dosing interval as the drug may remain in the body longer, increasing the risk of side effects. Patients with allergic constitutions or family histories may be at risk of hypersensitivity reactions, so caution is advised. Patients who have difficulty taking orally, elderly patients, or those in poor general condition should be monitored for bleeding risks due to vitamin K deficiency. Patients exhibiting gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea may not adequately absorb the medication, thus caution is necessary. During the course of taking this medication, if symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or bloody stools occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and a physician should be consulted. Liver function abnormalities can manifest during treatment or even after cessation, hence regular liver function tests are necessary. If allergic symptoms such as skin rashes, hives, or difficulty breathing appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and emergency care should be sought. Long-term use may present abnormalities in blood tests including leukopenia or anemia; thus, regular blood tests should be performed. Central nervous system symptoms such as dizziness, headache, or seizures have rarely been reported, so notify a physician if such symptoms occur. This medication is excreted via the kidneys, thus patients with reduced kidney function need dose adjustments, and immediate treatment is needed if renal failure symptoms appear. Changes in gut bacterial balance due to antibiotic use may cause candidiasis or stomatitis, and a physician should be consulted if symptoms arise. There may be a tendency for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, so if symptoms of bleeding occur, healthcare professionals should be notified immediately. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid using this medication during the first three months of pregnancy, and it should only be administered when the benefits outweigh the risks. Nursing women should be cautious as this medication may be passed into breast milk in small amounts, potentially causing side effects in infants, leading to discontinuation if any abnormal symptoms develop. The use in pediatric patients, particularly those under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg, is not recommended due to limited experience. Elderly patients are more likely to exhibit side effects due to physical function decline, hence dose and administration intervals should be adjusted and closely monitored. This medication may interact with other drugs; hence, extra caution is needed when taken concurrently with anticoagulants, probenecid, allopurinol, disulfiram, etc. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, or seizures may occur; immediate notification to healthcare professionals and appropriate treatment is necessary.
