This medication is used as an adjunct when diet and exercise do not adequately control primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia. It also supplements dietary therapy or other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. In children aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia meeting specific criteria, it is also used as an adjunct to dietary therapy. Additionally, it helps as an adjunct to dietary therapy in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. In adults at high risk for cardiovascular disease, it effectively reduces the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization, thus decreasing cardiovascular disease risk. It is used for various hyperlipidemias and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk.
