Precautions

This medication is an alpha-blocker that is primarily used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia or hypertension. Do not administer this drug to patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or other medications in the same class. Additionally, it should not be used in children under 12 years of age as safety has not been established. This drug contains lactose and should not be administered to patients with genetic disorders affecting lactose metabolism. Caution should be exercised when using this drug in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, and specific diseases such as orthostatic hypotension, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, and diabetes. When taking this medication, symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, headache, palpitations, and blood pressure drop may occur, especially when first taking or suddenly increasing the dose. Serious side effects such as syncope or tachycardia may rarely occur; if these symptoms occur, immediate resting in a lying position is recommended, and if necessary, seek medical attention. There is a risk of dizziness or fainting due to orthostatic hypotension when standing up quickly during treatment, so it’s crucial to move slowly. It is advisable to avoid activities requiring concentration such as driving a car or operating machinery when feeling dizziness or drowsiness. While this medication helps relieve the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, if symptoms do not improve, other treatment methods such as surgery should be considered. Benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer exhibit similar symptoms, so it is essential to confirm the absence of prostate cancer before treatment. If a patient taking this medication is to undergo cataract surgery, they should inform their doctor about the medication as a specific complication known as intraoperative floppy iris syndrome may occur during surgery. This medication does not have significant interactions with many other medications, but caution is advised when taking it with antihypertensives as it may cause excessively low blood pressure. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication, and nursing mothers are advised to avoid taking it or to discontinue breastfeeding if possible. It is a principle not to use this drug in children as safety and efficacy have not been established. In elderly patients, starting from a low dose is crucial as excessively low blood pressure may pose a risk of stroke. Severe hypotension may occur in case of overdose, necessitating immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and care should be taken not to transfer it to another container as this may alter the quality of the medication.
