Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is broken down in the body into phenylalanine. Therefore, patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should not take this medication. People with allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not use it. Also, it should not be administered to patients with liver cirrhosis or those with cystathionine synthase deficiency. This medication's metabolites may interfere with methionine metabolism. Patients suffering from peptic ulcer, severe renal impairment (especially those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min), and severe hepatic impairment should also refrain from taking this medication. As this medication contains lactose, it should not be administered to patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should use this medication with caution and ensure that the daily dosage does not exceed 300 mg. Diabetic patients or those on a low-calorie diet should exercise caution when using the syrup form of this medication. Taking this medication in excess (more than 1200 mg per day) may lead to symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, facial flushing, and more. Headache, cold symptoms, difficulty breathing, taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn, erythema, eczema, fatigue, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal disturbances, bile reflux, erythema nodosum, palpitations, itching, weakness, drowsiness, and rashes have been reported as side effects. Additionally, symptoms such as fatigue, indigestion, gastrointestinal disorders, palpitations, facial or generalized swelling, itching, weakness, drowsiness, and rashes may also occur. As this medication is an expectorant, when taken with cough medications, it may make phlegm expulsion difficult, increasing the risk of bronchial infection or bronchospasm. Although no specific harmful effects were found in animal tests, clinical safety has not been adequately established.
