relief of allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria and other symptoms
This medication is used to alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. It also reduces rashes and itching caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria. It can be used effectively in conjunction with topical hydrocortisone preparations for treating eczema and dermatitis associated with itching. Overall, it helps alleviate discomfort from allergies and skin-related symptoms.
For adults and children over the age of 6, take 1 tablet (5 mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride) orally once a day, regardless of meals. Adjustments can be made according to age and symptoms. For patients with renal impairment, dosage should be adjusted according to the kidney function (creatinine clearance rate (CLCR)). Mild impairment (50 ≤ CLCR < 80): 1 tablet, once daily. This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to specific ingredients or allergies to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. Caution is required as it may cause a rapid or irregular heartbeat and elevated blood pressure. Hematological side effects can include leukopenia or platelet abnormalities. Allergic reactions such as skin rashes, itching, swelling, and photosensitivity can occur; if any unusual symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. Rarely, blurred vision or conjunctival congestion has been reported. Regular monitoring may be necessary due to possible effects on liver and kidney function. Drowsiness or fatigue may occur following the intake of this medication, so caution is required when driving or operating machinery. Combining with alcohol or CNS-acting medications may enhance drowsiness, therefore it is advisable not to take them together. Patients with urinary output obstruction may experience worsened symptoms when taking this medication, hence caution is advised. This medication should not be taken with other antihistamines or alcohol, and there may be interactions with certain medications. Taking this medication with food may slow the absorption rate, but the overall absorption amount remains unchanged. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, especially since it can be transferred to the baby during breastfeeding. Dosing adjustments may be needed for children under 12, and it should not be used in infants under the age of 1. Elderly patients are advised to start at a lower dose due to potential increased drug concentration from reduced kidney function and should be monitored closely. It is recommended to temporarily stop this medication before allergy testing. In case of overdose, symptoms may include drowsiness, anxiety, and agitation; as there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment is necessary. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so caution is needed in cases of overdose.
