Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (left ventricular dysfunction)
This medication is used to treat essential hypertension and heart failure. It is particularly effective in heart failure patients with impaired left ventricular systolic function where monotherapy with an ACE inhibitor is insufficient or poorly tolerated. It helps improve cardiac function and alleviate symptoms in these patients. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension and specific heart failure patients.
1. Essential Hypertension - The recommended starting and maintenance dose is 8 to 16 mg of Candesartan Cilexetil taken orally once daily. - If hypertension is not sufficiently controlled after 4 weeks of treatment at 16 mg once daily, the dose may be increased up to 32 mg once daily. - For patients with reduced effective blood volume and impaired renal function, the initial dose is 4 mg, while patients with liver dysfunction should start at 1 mg once daily. 2. Heart Failure - The recommended initial dose is 4 mg taken orally once daily. The dose may be doubled at intervals of at least 2 weeks, considering the patient's tolerance, up to a maximum of 32 mg once daily.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn when used by pregnant women; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. People with allergies to this drug or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with severe liver disease, and those with certain hereditary diseases should not use it. Elderly individuals, those with impaired kidney function, and patients with hyperkalemia should use this medication cautiously and have their blood pressure or kidney function monitored regularly. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, cough, and dyspepsia may occur. If there are unusual symptoms, it is advisable to consult a doctor. Particularly in heart failure patients, there is a risk of side effects including hypotension, worsening kidney function, and increased potassium levels, so careful monitoring and regular testing are necessary. If taken with other antihypertensives, diuretics, or potassium supplements, side effects may increase due to interactions, thus it is essential to inform the doctor. This medication should not be taken during pregnancy, and breastfeeding should either be avoided or breastfeeding should be discontinued while taking it. There is insufficient data on the safety and efficacy for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, so it is preferable not to use it in this population. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and rapid heartbeat may occur, and immediate medical attention is required. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and care should be taken not to transfer it to other containers.
