This medicine helps prevent and manage asthma on an ongoing basis. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it contributes to maintaining respiratory health and effectively improving symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older take 10 mg of montelukast once daily by mouth. This medicine should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. 10 mg orodispersible film is placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve without water.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years take 5 mg of montelukast once daily, either chewed or placed on the tongue to dissolve without water. Children aged 4 to 5 years take 4 mg of montelukast once daily, either chewed or placed on the tongue.

Precautions

This medicine is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During the use of this medicine, abnormalities in the nervous system may occur, so if mental changes such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal urges occur, consult a doctor immediately. Do not take this medicine if you have allergies to it or if you have specific genetic issues, such as lactose intolerance. This medicine is not intended for the treatment of acute asthma attacks, so use an emergency inhaler immediately if acute symptoms occur, and continue taking this medicine even when asthma symptoms are not present. To prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm, it's recommended to use this medicine in combination with inhaled beta-agonists instead of using this medicine alone. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid these medications while taking this medicine. Various side effects, such as hepatic dysfunction, skin rash, and respiratory infections may occur during treatment; report any symptoms to your doctor. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medicine with caution and only according to a doctor's instructions if necessary. Children and the elderly can also take this medication, but especially children should take it precisely according to the doctor’s guidance regarding dosage and method. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and general treatment and monitoring are required, and this medicine should be stored out of reach of children. Finally, do not arbitrarily reduce or stop other asthma treatments while taking this medicine, and consult a doctor if any changes in symptoms occur.
