Improvement of chronic constipation symptoms
This medication is used in adult patients with chronic constipation whose symptoms have not improved with laxative treatment. It alleviates the discomfort caused by constipation and effectively facilitates normal bowel activity to treat the symptoms.
This medication is taken orally and can be administered at any time of day regardless of meals. Adults should take 2 mg once daily. For elderly patients aged 65 and older, an initial dose of 1 mg once daily is recommended, which may be increased to 2 mg once daily if necessary. For patients with severe renal impairment or severe liver impairment, the dosage is 1 mg once daily. No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate renal or liver impairment.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to the active ingredient or excipients. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or those requiring dialysis should also avoid this medication. It may be dangerous for patients with intestinal problems or severe inflammation to take this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders due to the lactose contained in this medication. Patients with severely decreased kidney function should take this medication at a reduced dosage with caution. Patients with serious diseases affecting the liver, heart, lungs, or nervous system should use this medication more cautiously. Particularly, those with a history of arrhythmias or ischemic heart disease should be attentive when using this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver function should use a reduced dosage. Care should be taken when taking this medication along with other drugs that may impact heart rhythm. The most common side effects when taking this medication include headache and gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea). These symptoms typically appear early in treatment and usually diminish over time. Rarely, symptoms such as appetite loss, dizziness, tremors, palpitations, vomiting, dyspepsia, increased urination, fatigue, fever, lethargy, indigestion, abdominal bloating, abdominal discomfort, gastroesophageal reflux disease, rectal pain, hemorrhoids, functional dyspepsia, loose stools, esophagitis, duodenal ulcers, nasopharyngitis, bronchitis, shingles, athlete's foot, bacterial vaginosis, bacterial bronchitis, facial edema, and chest discomfort have been reported. If new palpitations occur, it is essential to consult a doctor. Women using oral contraceptives should consider additional contraceptive methods if severe diarrhea occurs, as it may reduce contraceptive efficacy. The potential for interactions with other medications is low, but caution is warranted when taken with certain medications as it may affect drug concentrations. Consultation with a physician is advised, especially when combining with medications that impact heart rhythm. Experience with the use of this medication during pregnancy is limited, and its use during pregnancy is not recommended. Women of childbearing age should ensure effective contraception while taking this medication. It is not recommended to use this medication while breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk. It is advisable not to use this medication in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Overdose may result in symptoms such as headache, nausea, and diarrhea, requiring appropriate treatment based on the symptoms. This medication may cause dizziness or fatigue on the first day of use, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and kept in its original container, avoiding moisture.
