Patients with liver disease or a history of liver disease should use this medication with caution, as liver function may worsen. If allergic symptoms such as rash, urticaria, swelling of the face or limbs, or severe itching occur while taking this medication, discontinue use immediately and see a doctor. Occasionally, symptoms such as drowsiness, fatigue, headache, dizziness, insomnia, nightmares, numbness, and a feeling of mental fog may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, heartburn, dry mouth, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and oral inflammation. Liver function abnormalities or jaundice symptoms may occur; if these symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. Rarely, kidney function abnormalities may lead to proteinuria. Urological symptoms such as frequent urination, hematuria, and urinary retention may occur, so report any abnormal symptoms. Symptoms of rapid heartbeat may occasionally arise. Respiratory issues such as difficulty breathing or nasal congestion may also occur rarely. Blood tests may show a decrease in platelets or an increase in white blood cells; therefore, attention should be paid to any abnormal symptoms. In women, male breast development, menstrual irregularities, and breast pain may rarely occur. This medication is not intended for the rapid relief of asthma attacks, so it is essential to explain the dosing method and effects to asthma patients clearly. Patients with seasonal allergies should begin taking this medication before symptoms start and continue it until symptoms resolve. This medication does not seem to enhance the sedative effects when taken with other sleep aids, antihistamines, or alcohol, but there is little experience with such combinations. This medication is expected to have minimal interaction with other drugs metabolized in the liver, thus not affecting the efficacy of other medications. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not well established; therefore, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use it cautiously after consulting a physician. Lactating women should avoid use or discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication, as it may be transferred through breast milk. The safety for children, especially those who are underweight or are newborns and infants, has not been adequately established. Elderly patients may have decreased liver and kidney function; thus, they should be monitored for adverse reactions, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. In cases of overdose, there may be a risk of arrhythmia; therefore, an ECG examination and appropriate treatment should be sought immediately from a medical facility. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and careful attention should be paid not to transfer it to another container as it may alter the quality.
