Improvement of blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is administered as an adjunct to diet and exercise therapy and may be used either alone as an initial treatment or in combination with other diabetes medications. This medication can be used when sufficient blood sugar control is not achieved with metformin monotherapy or with the combination of linagliptin and metformin. Additionally, it can improve blood sugar control when combined with sulfonylureas, insulin, or empagliflozin. Adding this medication can help achieve effective blood sugar management in cases where blood sugar control is inadequate with multiple treatment methods. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The dosage of this medication should be determined considering the current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance of each patient, not exceeding the maximum recommended doses of 2.5 mg linagliptin and 1000 mg metformin twice daily. This medication is taken twice daily with meals. To reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin use, dosage increases should be made gradually. 1. Current users of metformin:
This medication consists of two main components that help control blood sugar levels. One of the components, metformin, can cause a serious metabolic complication called lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or certain heart and liver conditions. Particularly, it should not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment, acute infections, or dehydration, severe trauma or shock, or unstable bodily conditions like acute myocardial infarction. It is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and for children. When this medication is taken in combination with other hypoglycemic agents, hypoglycemia may occur, so patients should be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms and may need to adjust the dosage of other medications as necessary. To reduce the risk of lactic acidosis, kidney function should be monitored regularly, and if dehydration symptoms or severe vomiting or diarrhea occur, the patient should consult a physician immediately. Additionally, if iodinated contrast agents are administered during radiological examinations, the use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after the examination and can be resumed after kidney function stabilizes. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, so it is recommended to take it during or after meals. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as skin rashes, angioedema, pancreatitis, and bullous pemphigoid may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to a physician immediately. Long-term use may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so regular blood tests to monitor vitamin B12 status are important if needed. Elderly patients often have decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustments should be made while regularly monitoring kidney function during use. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform their physician or pharmacist of any other medications they are taking. In the event of an overdose, dangerous conditions such as lactic acidosis may occur, so this medication should be taken according to the prescribed dosage and regimen, and immediate medical attention should be sought in the case of an overdose. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in a dry place away from moisture.
Urticaria, angioedema, lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, bullous pemphigoid, liver dysfunction (abnormal liver function tests, hepatitis), severe allergic reactions (urticaria, angioedema, significant swelling), acute pancreatitis, angioedema, severe edema, significant swelling or urinary abnormalities (generalized severe swelling, hypertension), jaundice, acute kidney injury, acute myocardial infarction, angina, unstable angina, cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure,
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is also best stored at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Following these guidelines helps maintain the medication's effectiveness over time.
