Precautions

This medication can cause a rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis; thus, it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or severe liver disease. Additionally, patients with allergies to any of the components of this medication, individuals with type 1 diabetes, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid its use. When used in conjunction with other blood glucose-lowering medications, monitoring for hypoglycemia is necessary, especially when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas which may require dosage adjustments. Elderly patients with reduced kidney function or those taking medications that may affect kidney function should undergo regular kidney function tests. In cases of acute illness or impending surgery, this medication should be temporarily discontinued. If symptoms such as acute pancreatitis or blistering skin eruptions like bullous pemphigoid occur, consult a physician immediately. This medication may cause vitamin B12 deficiency due to its metformin component, so it's recommended to regularly check vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. Avoid use during pregnancy, and it's advisable to consult a doctor about considering alternative treatments if planning to conceive or already pregnant. This product is not recommended for children under 10 years of age or adolescents aged 10 to 17, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Using this medication along with alcohol increases the risk of lactic acidosis, so alcohol consumption should be avoided. There is a possibility of drug interactions, so if other medications are being taken, it's essential to inform a physician or pharmacist, particularly when using drugs that may affect kidney function.
