This drug is used to relieve pain due to peripheral and central nervous system disorders in adults. It is also effective as an adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy patients. It helps relieve pain caused by fibromyalgia. It plays an important role in improving symptoms for patients with various neurological disorders.
This medication is pregabalin, and the total daily dosage should be split into two doses, taken orally without regard to meals. 1. Neuropathic Pain 1) Peripheral Neuropathic Pain A starting dose of 150 mg per day may be administered, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days. The safety and efficacy data for patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 are insufficient, so administration is not recommended.
This drug may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if mood changes or depressive symptoms occur while taking this medication, the patient must inform their doctor immediately. Patients with allergies to any ingredients or certain genetic metabolic issues should not take this medication. Diabetic patients may require adjustments to their blood sugar control medications due to potential weight gain, so caution is advised. If severe allergic reactions like angioedema occur, the medication must be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should be particularly careful when first taking the medication due to the risk of dizziness or drowsiness leading to falls. Visual disturbances such as blurred vision may occur. If symptoms persist, consult a physician. Abruptly stopping the medication can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so the dosage should be gradually reduced under a doctor's guidance. There is a risk of drug abuse; therefore, patients with a history of substance use should take this medication with extra caution. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments. Patients with heart disease should take this medication with caution. Since it has central nervous system depressant effects, drowsiness or confusion may occur when taken with alcohol or other sedatives, so extra caution is needed. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant must consult their physician about the potential effects on the fetus and use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consider stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication, as it may be transmitted through breast milk. It is advisable to avoid activities that require concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, until changes in symptoms are confirmed after taking the medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, and seizures may occur, requiring an immediate medical visit, and treatment such as hemodialysis may be necessary. Store out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers, for safety. If severe rash or allergic symptoms occur on the skin, the medication should be stopped immediately, and healthcare personnel should be consulted.
