Adult dose

There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under the age of 12 and adolescents aged 12-17, thus its use is not recommended.

This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults, as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, and for the treatment of fibromyalgia.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is to be taken orally as Pregabalin divided into two doses per day, regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic pain 1) Peripheral neuropathic pain: An initial dose of 150 mg can be given per day with possible titration to 300 mg after 3 to 7 days. If necessary, this may be increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at 7-day intervals. 2) Central neuropathic pain: Initial dosing according to patient response.

Child dose

Precautions

This medication is used as an antiepileptic agent and may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors; patients and caregivers should monitor for these symptoms closely. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or those with specific genetic lactose metabolism disorders. Diabetic patients may require adjustments in the dosage of blood sugar control medications due to weight gain. If symptoms of hypersensitivity such as angioedema occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Elderly patients may experience side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and confusion, so caution is needed, and they should avoid dangerous activities until they are accustomed to the effects of the medication. Visual disturbances or changes in vision may occur, and if these symptoms appear, consideration should be given to discontinuing the medication. Abruptly stopping the medication may result in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be tapered gradually according to a doctor's instructions. As there is a potential for drug abuse and dependence, patients with a history of mental illness or drug abuse should be especially cautious. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments. Patients with heart disease should use this medication with caution, and there is an increased risk of central nervous system depression if taken with opioid analgesics. Patients with respiratory diseases, renal impairment, or elderly patients may be at higher risk of severe respiratory depression and may need dosage adjustments. Early pregnancy poses a risk of fetal malformations, so the drug should not be administered to pregnant women, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women are advised to avoid breastfeeding as this drug can be passed to the infant through breast milk. Dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery should be avoided until dizziness and drowsiness have resolved. Severe skin reactions may occur, so if any skin abnormalities appear, discontinue the drug immediately and consult healthcare professionals. In case of overdose, confusion, drowsiness, depression, and other symptoms may occur, and treatment such as dialysis may be necessary.
