Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
Treatment must be initiated by a physician experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's dementia, and only when a caregiver can regularly monitor the patient's medication intake. This medication can be taken regardless of food intake. Dosage escalation: The maximum daily dose is 20 mg, and to minimize the risk of adverse reactions, the dose should be gradually increased by 5 mg per week over the first three weeks. First week (Days 1-7):
This medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to any of its components or have severe liver or kidney impairment. Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, a history of seizures, or a predisposition to seizures. Avoid concomitant use with NMDA receptor antagonists such as amantadine, ketamine, or dextromethorphan as side effects may increase or persist. Dietary changes that may alter urinary acidity or patients with certain urinary infections should be monitored closely. Caution is needed in patients with recent myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, or uncontrolled hypertension due to insufficient safety data. During treatment, side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, or hypertension may occur; consult a physician if any symptoms arise. Psychiatric side effects such as confusion, hallucinations, and psychotic reactions may rarely occur, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly NMDA antagonists, antipsychotics, skeletal muscle relaxants, and anticoagulants; use with caution under medical guidance. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should consult a physician before use, as this medication may affect the fetus, and breastfeeding should be discontinued if using this medication. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years have not been established, and use is not recommended. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, hallucinations, seizures, and vomiting may occur; seek immediate medical treatment. This medication may affect the central nervous system, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring to other containers should be avoided as it can adversely affect product quality.
