Precautions

This drug should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or any of its components. Caution should also be exercised when used in patients taking other serotonergic drugs such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Serious allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis may occur while using this medication; if symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. There have been reports of seizure-like symptoms resembling epilepsy; if such symptoms occur, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Side effects such as headaches, diarrhea, constipation, and liver function abnormalities may occur, and rarely, new side effects such as insomnia or rashes have also been reported. This medication is primarily used when administering anti-cancer drugs that cause nausea and vomiting, and when used in conjunction with other serotonergic medications, there is a risk of developing a serious condition called serotonin syndrome, hence patient status should be closely monitored. Since it is metabolized in the liver, caution is necessary when taken with certain medications as blood concentration may rise, increasing the risk of side effects. Safety has not been established during pregnancy, and it should only be used in special cases; in breastfeeding, it is advisable to discontinue nursing. Safety has not been sufficiently confirmed in children, so it should be used with caution. In the elderly, body functions may be impaired, so careful observation of their condition during administration is required, and if adverse reactions occur, it should be stopped immediately. This medication may cause issues when mixed with certain intravenous solutions, so it is advisable not to mix; however, in some cases, mixing may be permitted under specific conditions. Animal studies have reported effects such as fetal growth retardation or weight loss when given in high doses, so caution is necessary during pregnancy.
