Treatment of severe liver dysfunction (including hepatic encephalopathy)
This medication is used to supply amino acids parenterally in cases of severe liver dysfunction or liver failure, and for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy. It improves liver function in patients with severely impaired liver function, with or without brain function damage. It also helps in the treatment of serious complications such as hepatic encephalopathy. Therefore, this medication is effective in improving and treating symptoms related to liver dysfunction.
Administered intravenously as a drip, a maximum dose of 1.5 g of total amino acids per day per kg of body weight. The administration rate is 1.7 to 2.1 mL per kg of body weight over 60 minutes (for a patient weighing 70 kg, this corresponds to 40 to 50 drops per minute).
This medication should only be used according to a doctor's instructions. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment or liver disease, and those with amino acid metabolism issues. It should be avoided in patients with certain conditions, including heart failure, pulmonary edema, oliguria, anuria, hypernatremia, atrioventricular block, and myasthenia gravis. Patients with severe acidosis, congestive heart failure, edema due to sodium retention, or hyperkalemia should be administered with caution, and attention is required for patients with compromised renal function. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes may occur upon use of this medication; if symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately. Gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea or vomiting, and cardiovascular symptoms such as palpitations or increased blood pressure, may also occur. Rapid administration in large amounts may result in acidosis, so caution is necessary. In addition, serious side effects such as chills, fever, headache, dyspnea, and shock may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, notify medical personnel immediately. Particularly, patients with poor liver or kidney function should be cautious as this medication can increase blood nitrogen levels. Large doses may cause electrolyte imbalances, thus careful monitoring of electrolyte status is required. Diabetic patients should frequently monitor their blood glucose levels, and patients with renal or liver dysfunction must pay attention to dosage adjustments and fluid balance. The effectiveness of this medication can be reduced when used with certain antibiotics, and it may pose problems when administered with calcium injections if magnesium components are contained. Safety during pregnancy has not been established; it should be administered cautiously and only when absolutely necessary. In pediatric patients, due to immature liver function and the risk of hyperammonemia, the administration concentration should be low, and blood ammonia levels should be frequently monitored. Elderly patients may have compromised bodily functions, thus the administration rate should be slow and dosages adjusted accordingly. This medication contains electrolytes, and caution should be exercised regarding electrolyte balance during large doses; if the infusion rate is too fast, chills or vomiting may occur, hence slow administration is advised. It is recommended to warm this medication to body temperature before use, and it should be prepared and managed under aseptic conditions to reduce the risk of infection. Do not use if the solution is cloudy or discolored, and it should be used quickly after opening; it is safe to use within 24 hours when stored in the refrigerator. When storing, the packaging should not be opened, and if the rubber stopper is compromised, it should not be used.
Severe allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, shock, bronchospasm, dyspnea, respiratory arrest, severe edema accompanied by elevated blood pressure
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
