Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and by women who are breastfeeding. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal problems such as gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation as it may be harmful. It should be avoided in patients with certain tumors such as pheochromocytoma, as it may induce hypertension. Patients who have an allergic reaction or intolerance to this medication should NOT take it. This medication is not suitable for patients with liver diseases or those in a manic state, or early-stage bipolar disorder. Patients with breast-related conditions should be careful as this medication may increase prolactin secretion, which could exacerbate breast problems. Additionally, this medication contains lactose and should not be taken by patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic diseases. Caution is required when using this medication in patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly, especially in children where extrapyramidal symptoms may occur; therefore, it is important to avoid overdose. This medication may cause side effects related to abnormal hormone secretion such as amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and gynecomastia; hence, symptoms should be monitored closely. Additionally, tremors, tongue twisting, and anxiety symptoms may rarely occur; in such cases, dosing should be stopped immediately. Long-term use may lead to persistent involuntary movements, so caution is advised. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac issues such as hypertension or arrhythmias may also arise, warranting careful observation. Rarely, serious symptoms related to neuroleptic malignant syndrome may arise; if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness occur, immediate medical attention is required. If skin rashes or swelling occur, it is advisable to stop taking the medication. While taking this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, and lethargy may occur, with rare reports of erectile dysfunction. It is safe to avoid activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, while taking this medication. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, special caution is needed when taken with anticholinergic drugs, analgesics, psychiatric medications, and cardiac-related medications. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication as it may pose risks to the fetus or newborn. The elderly should cautiously use this medication as kidney function may be decreased, leading to prolonged drug retention; thus dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted accordingly. This medication has anti-emetic effects, which may mask or exacerbate vomiting symptoms caused by other reasons; hence, careful observation of the condition is necessary. Animal studies have shown that long-term high-dosage use may increase the risk of reproductive dysfunction or tumor formation, warranting caution during prolonged use.
