Improvement of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia
This medication is used for the treatment of symptoms of Alzheimer's-type dementia. It helps improve memory impairment and cognitive function decline due to dementia, thus enhancing the quality of daily life.
As donepezil hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. Normal conditions will be reached after 15 days, so maintain the dose of 5 mg for 4-6 weeks. After evaluating the clinical response during this period, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing the dose to 10 mg per day, it should be administered with caution regarding gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight elderly women should not exceed 5 mg per day.
There is no experience in using this medication in children.
This medication contains donepezil hydrochloride as the main ingredient, primarily used for the treatment of symptoms of Alzheimer's-type dementia. Firstly, this medication should not be administered to individuals who have allergies to donepezil hydrochloride or other components of this medication, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women. Additionally, patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic lactose hydrolyzing disorders should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease, particularly those at risk of bradycardia or arrhythmias, should use this medication with caution, and regular monitoring of cardiac function is necessary. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should be cautious due to the potential risk of gastrointestinal bleeding or worsening of ulcers. Individuals with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should be careful as bronchoconstriction may occur when taking this medication. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease may need to be cautious as their symptoms could worsen. This medication contains the pigment Yellow No. 4, and individuals allergic to this ingredient should use it with caution. During treatment, serious adverse reactions such as syncope, bradycardia, heart block, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver dysfunction, seizures, movement disorders, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, and renal failure may occur, so if these symptoms arise, you should immediately consult a doctor. Additionally, various side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, insomnia, hallucinations, anxiety, myalgia, urinary incontinence, frequent urination, constipation, pain, thrombocytopenia, hematological abnormalities, musculoskeletal abnormalities, neurological abnormalities, skin rash, blood pressure changes, hematological and lymphatic system abnormalities, abdominal pain, weakness, vasodilation, dehydration, confusion, irritability, hallucinations, anxiety, drowsiness, hyperhydration, weight changes, hematuria, urination disorders should be reported to medical staff if symptoms occur. When taken with medications related to cardiac arrhythmias or QT interval prolongation, periodic electrocardiogram examinations should be conducted to monitor heart status. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication, and if absolutely necessary, a decision should be made after consulting with a specialist. This medication should be kept out of reach of children to ensure their safety, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided. There may be drug interactions while taking other medications, so if you are currently taking any medications, be sure to inform your healthcare provider. In case of overdose, severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur, and immediate emergency treatment is necessary, with atropine being available as an antidote. Finally, this medication may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery; therefore, caution is required during the initial phase of treatment or when changing doses.
