This medication can rarely cause serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis. If blistering or progressive skin rash with mucosal damage occurs, discontinue use immediately. Patients allergic to this medication or macrolide antibiotics should not take it. Patients taking specific medications such as terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, or pizotifen, as well as those on ergot alkaloids or mizolastine, should not use this medication. Caution is advised for patients with poor liver function or the elderly as this medication should be used cautiously, especially when used with other antibiotics due to the risk of drug resistance. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the effects on the fetus when using this drug, and nursing mothers should avoid administration or discontinue breastfeeding.
